21 Sep A reminder about changes to casual employment laws – 27 September 2021
Employers (other than small business employers) need to assess by 27 September 2021 whether any existing casual employees (employed before 27 March 2021) are eligible to be offered to convert to permanent employment.
Employers need to:
- make a written offer to convert their casuals to permanent within 21 days after making the assessment; or
- write to employees explaining why they will not be made an offer within 21 days of making the assessment but by no later than 27 September 2021.
Employees need to respond in writing within 21 days after receiving an offer to convert to accept the offer. If the employee does not respond, employers can assume that the employee has declined the offer.
If you require further advice about the changes to casual employment laws to ensure you are meeting your legal obligations, please get in touch with the team at HR Law.
