Jill Hignett - Managing Partner

Summary of Experience

 

Prior to HR Law’s inception in 2006, Jill was the head of one of Queensland’s largest independent law firm’s employment law division for in excess of seven years.  Jill has extensive experience and knowledge in all areas of workplace law.  Jill has acted for numerous large and small employer clients at State, Federal and international levels.

 

Jill has been recognised for a number of years as an industry leading (Employer Representative) lawyer by Doyle’s Guide.

Sewar Mitanis - Partner

Summary of Experience

 

Sewar brings over 18 years of extensive experience, specialising in Employment, Workplace/Industrial Relations and Enterprise Bargaining. Sewar has developed an in-depth knowledge and understanding of Federal and Queensland law, which allows her to provide considered, tailored and practical solutions to the wide range of her clients.

 

Following being admitted to the Bar of Lawyers in 2004 in her home country, Sewar migrated to Australia in 2006 and was then admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2010. Sewar is also admitted as a Solicitor of the High Court of Australia. Having worked exclusively in the Employment and Industrial Relations framework, Sewar has developed a strong passion for her areas of practice through working with public (Queensland State Government and Local Governments) and private sectors, as well as the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission and the Industrial Court of Queensland.

Victoria is experienced in all aspects of employment and workplace relations law. As both a lawyer and human resources specialist, Victoria’s legal skills and knowledge combined with her practical corporate management experience gives Victoria a highly developed understanding of the multifaceted operations and legal risks businesses face in the management of their workplace law obligations.   Victoria works with clients to provide practical legal and management outcomes for their business.

 

Victoria is admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia and regularly assists clients across State and Federal jurisdictions.  Victoria is also a member of the Australian HR Institute. Victoria’s extensive experience includes employment contracts and policies, performance management and disciplinary procedures, modern award interpretation, wage assessments and underpayment claims, enterprise agreements, unfair dismissal and general protection claims and general employment advice.

Olivia has recently been admitted as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of Queensland, following the completion of her Bachelor of Laws (Honours) at the Queensland University of Technology, as well as her Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at the College of Law.

 

Having worked as an administration assistant and law clerk at HR Law for many years prior, Olivia has developed a deep knowledge and understanding of employment and industrial relations law.  Olivia is currently gaining experience as a solicitor under our team of experienced solicitors with a particular interest in workplace investigations and Enterprise Agreement negotiations and drafting.

Prini has recently been admitted in October 2023 as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of Queensland, following the completion of her Bachelor of Laws at Griffith University, as well as her Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at Queensland University of Technology.

 

Prini has gained a broad experience in various working environments during her university studies including state and federal government and boutique and large law firms. Prini is currently focused on honing her legal skills by focusing on workplace investigations and gaining knowledge into the industrial relations sector.

 

In her spare time, Prini volunteers as the Vice President of Pasifika Lawyers Association of Queensland and as a Youth Coordinator for her local church.
