Our people are specialist workplace relations lawyers. They have extensive knowledge and practice in assisting employers across all workplace related issues. Jill Hignett - Managing Partner

Jill has extensive experience and knowledge in all areas of workplace law. Jill acts for numerous large, medium and small employer clients at State, Federal and international levels.

In addition, Jill has general commercial litigation experience and is a qualified workplace trainer holding a Certificate IV in workplace training.

Jill is a founding committee member of the Queensland Law Society Workplace Relations Specialist Accreditations Committee and held the position of Chairman for a number of years.  Jill is also a past member of the Queensland Law Society Court Procedure and Process Committee.  Jill has authored numerous articles and has presented in a variety of forums as an expert in Workplace Relations law.

Prior to commencing in practice with HR Law, Jill was the head of one of Queensland’s largest independent law firm’s employment law division for in excess of six years.

Kristin Ramsey - Practice Group Leader

For over a decade Kristin has worked exclusively in the industrial relations arena and as a result has developed exceptional legal, strategic and analytical skills in relation to all aspects of employment and industrial relations law.

Kristin is a very active member of the legal profession and contributes significantly to education and debate in the employment and industrial relations arena. Kristin is currently the Chair of the Queensland Law Society’s Industrial Relations Committee, sits on the Board of Caxton Legal Centre and is also a  volunteer coordinator for the employment law clinic at Caxton.

Kristin has been included in the Best Lawyers List as a leading lawyer in the area of labour and employment law since 2016 and in 2018 was recognised in Doyles Guide’s list of leading employment lawyers in QLD.

With over 10 years specialised experience in employment law and industrial relations, Sarah is an expert in assisting businesses of any size to manage and meet their legal obligations and manage risks across their workforce.

Sarah enjoys thinking outside of the box and is solution driven for her clients, with a focus on providing commercially minded legal advice in this complex area of practice.

Sarah regularly assists clients manage and investigate workplace complaints, including investigations into matters that involve public disclosure and CCC matters.

Meghan De Pinto-Smith - Associate

Meghan graduated from the University of Queensland in 2015 and was admitted to practice in 2016. Meghan has knowledge and experience working in all areas of employment and industrial relations law.

Meghan has represented employers and employees in various matters including unfair dismissal, general protections, workers’ compensation and claims for unpaid wages and entitlements. Meghan has also been involved in the Fair Work Commission’s award modernisation process.

Meghan has a particular interest in using her knowledge and practice of employment and industrial relations law to advise employers on the legal issues they have to consider when managing their employees, developing policies and procedures, and preparing employment contracts and enterprise agreements, to minimise their exposure to legal risks.

Meghan has also completed studies in industrial and organisational psychology and developed skills in evaluating and improving workplace management systems.
